Yo! August was so much calmer than July and I loved it! But it was still busy and awesome. We went to Foodies Eat First by BradenSTL and produced a fully remote podcast all weekend from our exclusive podcast booth. We recorded on location at Magic Mini Golf on Delmar with Joe Edwards and Magic Amanda. We announced VOLTRON Beer Volume #9 with 4 Hands and 2nd Shift Breweries on the podcast. AND we just released our exclusive interview with Conductor and Music Director, Emily Marshall, who you will see conducting Avatar: The Last Airbender in Concert at The Fabulous Fox Sept. 14th. Enter to win FREE tickets to the show on our contest page linked in our event section. Buy your tickets now and enjoy our interview with Emily!

This September is going to bring more podcast episodes and exclusive interviews, but most of our focus will be on counting down to the big Team Jakey event Sept. 20th. All details linked up in our event section of this newsletter. It is going to be a GREAT day. See you there! Sign up and learn more at teamjakey.org.

Fall is coming in strong. I have already had pumpkin bread and Oktoberfest beer. We are also already watching scary movies and the Twilight series. We just wrapped up watching LOST for the 20+ time. Watch for rewatch podcast one day just for LOST. I am realizing the holidays are here and 2026 will be popping its head up sooner that we all think. So with that in mind, I will be aiming to slow down even more and enjoy each day slowly. Every moment is a gift. I know it is a grind for all of us. We got this. Take it easy and thanks so much for reading.

Hey friends. August was an absolute banger. Palm trees and sandy beaches, sand traps at my favorite golf course, lots of foodies and…. FOOTBALL.

My favorite of many trips to Alamo Drafthouse this month was to see ‘Weapons,’ a movie I still cant stop thinking about. I didn’t see it coming in as my third favorite film of 2025, as horror isn’t my go to for a theater experience. But this movie offers much more than just the jump scares I was expecting. It’s the summer of Julia Garner for me. I gave it a 3.75/4.

I am enjoying ‘Peacemaker’ season two so far. I love the world building James Gunn and Peter Safran have put together so far and expect ‘The Lanterns’ to be another hit on deck for 2026. Tim Meadows is season MVP so far.

Next month I’m pumped to get back in the studio (it’s looking slicker than ever), see WTF happens in ‘Peacemaker’ and watch a million hours of football each week. Take care and enjoy the holiday weekend!

Summer is over, yeah I know its not officially over, but c'mon. Its over. Summer blockbusters are done, kids are back in school, Spirit Halloween stores have risen from the dead in place of your favorite closed stores. Its time to admit that when August is over, so is the summer.

It was light month for the Scoop house in preparation for the school year to start back up, but that doesn’t mean no fun was had. Movies like Nobody 2, Caught Stealing and Weapons. Concerts like El Monstero, Galactic Empire and Coheed and Cambria. Read Patrick Rothfuss' Name of the Wind, a book that has been on my TBR pile for quite some time. Oh and adopted a dog! Rizzo Scoop!

Looking forward to capping off August with the annual Football draft and lazy Sundays on the couch watching dudes slingin the pigskin.

What else is happening in September? Movies like The Long Walk (Stephen King, which I am currently reading in prep for the film) HIM, One Battle After Another. TV shows like my favorite, Survivor (I do NOT miss an episode) The Office (spinoff?) show on Peacock-The Paper, Only Murders in the Building and Gen V.

We're recording with Tim Convey and many others, and one of my most anticipated events of the year, the Team Jakey Annual Gentleman Jakes Memorial Cornhole Tournament! Don't sleep on September! It's gonna be a good one! Scoop out!

Guys, it's the end of August, which means my pool season is finally firing up, and yours is closing down. I have the pool heater going as we speak on this balmy 70 degree morning.

August was an exciting month! It started with a week in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Me and Arena Andy (wives and others were there too, not just Andy and me..) got some good vacation time in with some fantastic weather! That was followed up with a week of recovery. I saw 0 movies in August.. but I have been watching the show Alien: Earth on Hulu/Disney. I am an avid Alien fan, and love sci-fi movies and shows. This show is one of my favorite additions to the entire Alien franchise! It is SO good. Noah Hawley is the showrunner/creator and he's best known as the creator of stand-out shows like Fargo and Legion.

Outside of that, Team Jakey is in full swing preparing for the Sept. 20th Cornhole tournament. If you want a team, make sure to check out teamjakey.org. More entertainment this year than ever especially for the kiddos! My August wraps up with a few Team Jakey members and myself, heading to Tennessee to take part in the Sweating Out the Stigma at Burn Boot Camp, which partially benefits Team Jakey and our mission! Thank you Burn Boot Camp, Hendersonville TN! Finally, breaking in the pool for the first time come Labor Day! Bout time! See you all in September.
