And just…like….that. No. Not the weird name for the Sex In the City reboot series (what is up with HBO renaming stuff that doesn’t need a renamed??) What I mean is, just like that, July is DONE. And wow wow wow… what a month.
We tallied up the numbers and BOY did we go to the movies in July. All in all our podcast crew (including our plus ones), we saw 8 different movies in the theaters. That totaled in 23 screenings which comes out to 66 seats seeing movies on the big screen in local theaters like Alamo Drafthouse St. Louis, Marcus Ronnie’s Cinema, the Hi-Pointe Theater, and B&B Theaters. Special thank you to Allied Global Marketing and Alamo Drafthouse and each movie theater for all of the hard work facilitating the special screenings and making the theater experience awesome always. This summer at the movies has been stellar and Mostly Superheroes is proud to be have been a part of it.
To save me from writing and you from reading, get caught up on ALL of the amazing things we did in July by reading the blurbs from the next three hosts. All I will say is this: I am one grateful dude and nerd. I felt like a kid again seeing Superman. I didn’t know that was even possible. It was pretty amazing to re-discover that feeling as a grown man. Thank you, James Gunn.
This July, I pushed myself further professionally than I ever have before. I produced more that 10 live shows, 2 live comic book shops shows, and 4 remote programs that required complex Live Stream + Video + Audio + PA setups that I was able to not only do well, but bonus points: I had fun and loved it. I am discovering new opportunities and possibilities every day. I am seeing payoffs happen that have been goals since day one, and boy, that is just awesome.
I am doing by best to do my best, showing up, balancing my days, nurturing each part of my life as equally as I can, and taking rest and self-care very seriously, as well as physically health. A body in motion stays in motion. Someone said that, right?
I was also featured on KTRS and More to Say with Randi Naughton the Podcast. Check that out for sure to learn more about me and Mostly Superheroes.
Thanks for reading and tuning into our indie show. I am so proud of the community here, it’s really become a family. See you at the next event or on the podcast. Call or text 754 CALL-LOG. Let’s have a GREAT August! Oh and for you midwesterners or travelers, FanExpoChicago is Aug 15th-17th! Take it east.
July. What. A. Month. Jurassic World. Superman. Fantastic Four. San Diego Comic-Con. Nerds are FEASTING right now. Not only that nerd stuff, but we had so much more going on. Two Screen and Socials, we had Bill Reiter from El Monstero/The Urge on the show.
Sam the DM took myself (Kilroy), The Sleeper (The Sleeper)and Logan (Lorgan the Dragonborn man)on their first foray into the world of Dungeons and Dragons for a one shot adventure. Got to go to yet another great Bubbles and Bards live D&D adventure at the City Winery St Louis.
Lots of other screenings like Eddington and The Naked Gun. Got to catch one of my favorite bands, Silversun Pickups, at The Hawthorne. Did a live broadcast from my comic shop, Endless CGC and talked shop with Jason, the man in charge at that location. Finally got to see the much anticipated Happy Gilmore 2 on Netflix.
Oh yeah, we also were guests of the St Louis Cardinals on Superman day! July was bringing the HEAT! Literally and figuratively. Hopefully August can follow an epic month like this one! Tune into the show to find out whats next! See you all next Month!
Hey Squad!! It’s a bittersweet newsletter this month. The greatest month of superhero cinema is over. Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.
Superman and Fantastic Four: First Steps both exceeded my already massive expectations, which is why I’ll be at Alamo Drafthouse for my fourth viewing of Marvel’s first family tonight. I’d like to formally thank the St. Louis Cardinals for having Mostly Superheroes at Superman day this month for our “big screen” debut! We had a blast even with multiple rain delays and the Redbirds took home a W. Check out our terrible Superman impressions on our socials.
This month I’ve really enjoyed Poker Face on Peacock, as well as new seasons starting of Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia and South Park (how about that last episode ?!?). HAPPY GILMORE 2 oh my! Go check out the new Naked Gun movie, because Liam Neeson is A+ casting and the great Paul Walter Houser was even funnier than he was in F4. In theaters today!
Shoutout to Aaron Perine, friend of the show and host of Free Space - The Free streaming TV podcast. I just bought their new t shirt that says “Enjoy Your Free Time.” I can’t be a bigger fan of that quote, we all need breaks. Find me on the golf course, in the pool, or on the sandy beach with Sam the Sleeper in August. Peace!
Hey All, Sammy the Sleeper here! July was absolutely insane.
The pool deck and patio project are in full swing and it's looking freaking sweet. I can just see $$$$$$ flying out the window every day, but it'll be worth it in the end. One day the pool will stop being a lagoon and look like a regular swimming pool.
I got to finally get out on the golf course, that was refreshing, I mean depressing. But hey, better than not playing I suppose. I also attended the Fantastic 4 Screen and Social at Alamo Drafthouse! Stay tuned for that upcoming review on Mostly Superheroes, but overall I really enjoyed the movie and I'm happy to put the old movies behind me.
I saw Happy Gilmore 2 this past week, and it just didn't do it for me. I felt like I was watching Adam Sandler play Adam Sandler, not Happy Gilmore (I get it he's older now, plus emotionally distressed), but still. I guess I didn't really need a Happy Gilmore 2? Maybe I would have liked it more if it came 20 years ago.
Lastly, it was my 36th birthday on the 26th.Still haven't heard from my twin brother, Jake..He's ghosting me. In related news, Ari thinks I'm 5 which is cool, and flattering, yet alarming, I don't really know.
Team Jakey is entering panic mode for the Sept. 20th memorial cornhole tournament -- but that's when we shine! A little stress and time crunch hasn't let us down yet.
July Snore Score - 0/4
Great month!
