How busy was August? This newsletter is 40 days late. That’s how busy! Let’s recap both August and September, shall we? (Yes, September is not even over yet! We are trying to get ahead for once lol).
TEAM JAKEY FEST HAPPENED. Just three days ago, we pulled it off. Yes, there was blood, sweat, and there were tears, and yes, it was worth it. The biggest one yet. The vibes were high. See you at the next one and the next event. Check out teamjakey.org for more.
LANTERNS on HBO by DC (in the James Gunn Superman and Supergirl universe) is pretty damn good. We did an episode on the first four episodes and we are doing live TikTok shows and podcasts for the rest of the season! Send us your thoughts on the show 754 CALL LOG.
Avengers: Doomsday countdown is on with the new podcast from Marvel with Ms. Marvel herself, Iman Vellani. CHECK THAT OUT, MARVEL FANS! Also, Seeing Avengers: Endgame Encore in “Infinity Vision” at Alamo this week! Will report back what we learn about the extra footage for Doomsday! But honestly, I am just pumped to see this movie on the big screen for the first time in 8 years.

Another month bites the dust. August is over. What happened? Not much over here. Back to school time always dominates the month of August.
Snuck in a few movies. Mutiny and End of Oak Street. Catch my reviews on the Substack (The Scoop on Comics).
We got Lanterns in full swing on HBO, and in my opinion, its the top of Gunns DCU so far. Gritty, grounded, fantastic writing and acting so far. Can't wait to see how it ends.
Only wrapped four books this month, The Glass Hotel by Emily St John Mandel 2.5/4, Throne of Glass by Sarah J Mass 2.5/4, The Dog Stars by Peter Heller 3/4 and Lamb by Christopher Moore 4/4.
I'm currently reading Gardens of the Moon, book one of Malazan book of the fallen, by Steve Erikson. It's consistently near the top in the fantasy genre so I'm excited to see how it plays out for me.
I wish I could say theres a ton of theater releases in September to look forward to, but the only thing I'm honestly tracking is the Endgame re-release with a few minutes of extra footage, to give context to Doomsday in December. Other than that, September seems like business as usual. Coast through until its time to wake up Billie Joe.

August absolutely flew by, and somehow we're already staring down the end of summer. We had some excellent pool weather this month, which meant we got to squeeze in one more great birthday pool party for Missy. The weather couldn't have cooperated better, and we had a great group of friends over. Plenty of food, plenty of drinks, and plenty of good times. I'd say we officially made the most of the pool this summer.
I also made it out to the BMW Championship for a day, where I got to experience the tournament from a pretty sweet skybox. It was definitely a cool experience, and St. Louis showed up BIG for the PGA. The crowd and atmosphere were awesome, and I'm glad I got to check it out. That said, I also learned that I'm probably never going to be the guy paying to attend a golf tournament. Very cool? Absolutely. Worth paying myself? Let's not get carried away.
On the movie front, I finally got to see Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and I'm not going to lie... I absolutely loved it. It's easily one of my favorite Spider-Man movies of all time and, for me, the best of the Tom Holland movies. I'd even put it ahead of the Tobey Maguire movies, which I know may be a controversial take. I've just never been much of a Maguire/Dunst guy.
And now we turn our attention to September, which is a HUGE month for Team Jakey. We're officially counting down the days until September 19th and Team Jakey Fest! We're planning for somewhere between 300-500 people, so we're hoping for great weather, a great turnout, and an even better day. Live music from 4 bands, all you can eat/drink, raffle, helicopter, and some magic - what else could you ask for? Get your tickets now!
