Hear from the hosts!

Logan, Andy, and Scotty share what they experience and enjoy, plus, highlight some local St. Louis favorites as well.

It’s Thursday, 3:33pm. Writing from our living room. The sun is bright and the cicadas are singin’. Doing my best to wrap up my list before an extended weekend. Carrie and I are taking a few days off for the first time in several months, and as I would guess many of you reading now might understand, it takes a significant amount of extra time and effort to truly be “off”, even if just for a few days. I am beyond excited to unplug, see a show, sit by a pool, and have some serious downtime. There will still be an episode dropping next week!

The last couple months have been crazy, busy, and fun. We attended a huge May the 4th celebration at Steve’s Hot Dogs where we got to co-host Star Wars Trivia with Steve Ewing, paired with our extensive How To Star Wars episode and resources we created by partnering up with Carrie Clark Design. Back in April we had a stellar time at 4 Hands Field Day. Logan Winter Cosplay came back onto the show, along with One Night of Queen creator Garry Mullen, artist Steven Walden, and we are now able to send ourselves and our fans (like you) to see movies early. We’re giving away tickets to live shows at amazing St. Louis venues like The Factory, the City Winery, The Pageant, and more. And we are being approached with new opportunities every week. I am just so proud of where we are and where we are headed.

Yes, we are Mostly Superheroes, and yes, I am obsessed with X-Men ‘97 and Deadpool & Wolverine right now. I have been rewatching the Singer X-Men films and any film featuring Hugh Jackman as Wolverine (so fun). And, while we are in the superhero genre, I have to shoutout the last five episodes of Spider-Man The Animated Series Season 5 for providing an epic, fun, Avenger-level event that holds up even after 27 years.

I rewatched ‘The Truman Show’ last week as I do from time to time. LOST is back on our TV now for my 13th or 14th time, truly LOST count years ago. Still the best series to date. It is perfect. And Carrie (and me kind of) has been watching The Challenge All Stars, Daria, 48 Hours, Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, The Jinx Season 2, and Black Beauty (1946).

The Giggler’s graciously hosted Carrie and myself to our first ever STL City Match this past weekend and wow… An absolutely beautiful Saturday night watching @stlcitysc at @stlcitypark. The atmosphere is electric. The architecture and overall design is so unique and visually stunning. If you’re like me, you’ll continuously be amazed at the height of those columns. The match was amazing to see in person. The supporters section was a force. The flags. The drums. The chants. The @mostlysuperheroes crew can’t wait to go back!

Live music, course! Recent shows: Tom Petty Tribute Band at the Pageant, Better Lovers at Off Broadway, and The Steve Ewing Band at The City Winery. Shows coming up: Alien Ant Farm at Bottom Lounge, Taking Back Sunday at The Pageant, Washed Out at The Pageant, and more I hope. You can also check out Samba Bom at a number of their upcoming shows!

I also want to share a brand new podcast that just dropped on YouTube called “It’s Still Here” hosted by Luke Blackburn. In this video series, join host Luke, as he explores timeless wisdom traditions and practices to deepen our understanding of ourselves and our place in the world. Three episodes are now streaming now on YouTube:

https://www.youtube.com/@ItsStillHere

Also locally, here are some of my favorite St. Louis coffee shops that are great for coffees, treats, meetings, or good times:

  • Blueprint Coffee at High Low Coffee Bar in Grand Center

  • Black Lab Coffee inside TechArtisa in UCity

  • Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea in The Grove

  • Any Park Avenue location

And last, definitely not least.. Some big news that I have not even announced on the podcast until now: I am getting married! Yep. If you listen to the podcast, you know that I refer to Carrie as “my partner” or “fiancée”. So now, with us getting married, I will of course now be able to call her “a huge pain in my ass” LOL jk. That one was for you, baby. I love you. My future wife AKA my very best friend and I get married later this fall! I am overwhelmingly in love. Still a total shock and surprise, even after almost 5 years. So, I am currently co-producing one of the biggest days of my life. And yes, I am feeling pretty damn lucky!

I am writing this as I fly home from San Diego, CA for a long weekend. I had the pleasure of seeing Tim Robinson’s ‘I Think You Should Leave’ Live show, and I have not stopped smiling since. Never before seen skits, extended footage, special guests, and the same awkward humor Tim has used to create three masterpiece seasons of this cult classic sketch comedy show on Netflix. The official Mostly Superheroes ‘I Think You Should Leave’ episode is coming soon. Get caught up and send us your Top 5 favorite skits to rank on the show. We didn’t stop there. We also got to check out the Comic Con Museum, and it’s safe to say we’ll be back for more.. someday.

I watched ‘Three Body Problem’ on Netflix. I give it a 3.3/4.0 rating. A sci-fi story with a unique premise that really has me wondering ‘what if’ we’re not alone out there.

I saw Nikki Glaser at the Fox Theater in St. Louis with Mrs. Giggler (this is her official birthday month. shoutout Stephanie!). This was an absolute no brainer 4.0 perfect score. She gave her hometown a preview of her appearance on ‘The Roast of Tom Brady’ on Netflix, where she stole the show and eviscerated Tom Brady one joke at a time (something I’ve wanted to do since I was 13). She is making STL proud, and we hope to do the same!

‘X Men 97’ deserves its own newsletter, absolute banger episodes week after week. This had to be my most anticipated season finale in years. We need more seasons now. To me, my X-MEN!

I saw an early screening of ‘Challengers’, which felt a bit like a tennis themed soft-core porno. But the story was told in a very intriguing and intense way. 3.4/4.0 rating for Zendaya’s new flick.

Looking forward to seeing ‘Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes’ this week at Alamo Drafthouse. Fun Fact: this newsletter was written while I binged the previous two Apes movies. Alamo Drafthouse Season Pass ($20/mo unlimited movies) is my best investment to date – as I just saw ‘The Fall Guy’ as well. 3.65/4.0 for this one. Ryan Gosling is just one example of some stellar casting in this film. Hannah Waddingham’s performance was as spectacular as she is in Ted Lasso.

I’ve been reading ‘Moon Man’ and ‘Ultimate Spiderman’ comics, as well as ‘MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios’ book, which I’ll talk about next month.

Shoutout to 4 Hands Brewery for putting on a BLAST of a time at their Field Day event, and sending a stacked Mostly Superheroes team to compete against some of St. Louis’ finest beer drinkers and athletes. The grand finale included an intense dunk tank matchup against our new friends at City Refs and La Cascarita podcasts. I took one for the team and stepped in the tank, and the squad had my back taking down the victory. All this fun, not to be overshadowed by another delicious tasting beer release in Field Day from 4 Hands Brewery. It tasted infinity times better than the dunk tank water...

What’s up everyone. My head is spinning with everything that I’ve experienced in the last month..... so here’s the Scoop from your favorite Scotty!

Sum41’s Tour of the Setting Sun came through St Louis at The Factory, and they tore it down for sure. Sad to think this band is not returning because it seems like they were at the top of their game.

Speaking of top of their game, I also saw Bit Brigade at Off Broadway, which was the first time I have ever been to that venue, and really enjoyed it! Very intimate place to catch a show. They were playing with Galactic Empire and Super Guitar Bros. If you're not familiar with any of these bands, please do yourself a favor and look em up, cause they are all nerd to the max.

Another show I saw was at The Hawthorne (also my first time at the venue) another great intimate place to catch a show. I saw Silversun Pickups there, and they were on point, as always. Just an epic rock show.

To round out my rockin’ May, I saw The Hard Promises, a Tom Petty tribute band headed up by the masterful Jimmy Griffin. Tom Petty is one of my all time favorites and The Hard Promises did not disappoint.

Locally I wanna shout out the venues I’ve been to in the last month. The Hawthorne, The Factory, Off Broadway and The Pageant. All great places to see a show, clean, safe, all-around wonderful experiences and I can’t wait to go back.

If you’re looking for what I’ve been watching lately, I’ve got a real gem I’ll talk about on the show soon and that's the anime, Solo Leveling. It's about a guy who's terrible at raiding dungeons, like really the worst. Well, he dies and is resurrected with the ability to LEVEL UP his skills by a mysterious computer program only he can see. The entire first season is currently streaming on Crunchyroll, and it is Scotty Scoop approved. In the rating system I just made up, it gets three and half Scoops. Which, if we’re talking raisins, is a lot.
