The future is audio

US adult podcast listeners will spend an average of 50 minutes per day tuned into programming in 2024.

The US alone, where podcasting is entirely mainstream, will have over 135.4 million podcast listeners in 2024, accounting for 44.1% of all internet users.

Podcast ads are show-specific, rather than audience-based. That same IAB report found that 42% of podcast ads were to drive brand awareness, compared with 39% for direct responses and 12% for branded content.

32% of podcast listeners now consider it their top audio platform, up from 26% in 2016. And as there has been a surge of return-to-office commuters, podcast listenership has also been soaring.

This growth is particularly notable among 18- to 34-year-olds and adults aged 35 to 49 who favor listening during car rides or while using public transit.
