‘Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning’' is the eighth installment in the Mission: Impossible film series and is scheduled for release in the United States on May 23, 2025. The film is about Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team's mission to stop a dangerous AI program called the Entity from falling into the wrong hands:
The Entity: A near-omnipotent AI system that can predict and manipulate outcomes across digital and technological networks.
Ethan Hunt: Ethan must go rogue to destroy the Entity and prevent it from being controlled by any nation or organization on Earth.
Gabriel: A foe from Ethan's past who is working directly for the Entity.
Grace: A talented thief who is tasked with stealing the keys to the Entity.
Ilsa Faust: A former M16 agent and Ethan's ally and possible love interest who is killed during a botched sale of the keys.
The film was originally titled Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two, but dropped its subtitle in October 2023. Christopher McQuarrie is directing the film, which also stars Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, Angela Bassett, and Rolf Saxon.
